Hello All!

Well the last week or so has been lovely and sunny! Which means ive been busy, but not so much on the craft front. There’s a few things in the pipe line at the moment though. 🙂 Some of which are incredibly fun and exciting! I’ve recently started on another blanket. Its made with lots of different types of ‘Drops Fabel’ (which are currently on sale at WoolWarehouse!!). And its just amazing stuff. The colours, the different prints, the texture, and mixing them all together looks sooo good!! Its quite a pleasurable time im having making this 🙂

Heres a few pictures! –

Well i do hope the weather holds up, and everyone is having a great time getting out in the sun! xx

Granny Square Throw :)

Yes, I am amoungst the masses of people who love doing granny squares, they’re just great to do when you find yourself with a bit of spare ‘hook time’. Then, after a while, you realise you have a stash big enough to make yourself a nice blanket, lovely! 🙂

I used the tutorial in THIS link when I was first starting out with crochet, as its good for beginners. It is in US terms. This really threw me when I first started crocheting, I had no idea the terms were completely different! But its not that hard to get your head around once you’ve learnt the basics. HERE’s a translation.

Then attatch them all using double crochet, easy huh?!

It’s also just the look I was going for. A sort of, ‘Old-Country’ style. The neutral off-white borders, with the splashes of colour coming through? And it’s so snuggly! I didn’t want this one to be overly big either, as the other ‘Project Blanket’ will be pretty huge! This is just the right size for a little cosy to keep the chilly toes warm in winter months 🙂

Ive also started making another blanket. This one will be granny squares too, but FULL of colour 🙂 Im going to do a load of the circle middles first, then all the borders after. I find my brain works better if I stick to the same sort of thing, rather than doing circle, square, circle square, I would rather circle circle, square square. Less flicking about between different things tends to keep my brain happy 🙂

February Projects!!…

Good afternoon, hope everyone is well??

I must admit, I don’t normally make lists, I normally just seem to wing it, go with the flow and see what happens. But as the amount of ideas, printed patterns, and half-finished projects are building up, I think I need to be a little more organised with my evenings and weekends.

Here’s five of the main things I want to get done, or finished off. And as February is a short month as it is, wish me luck!!

1- Make a knitted or crocheted purse – I recently found some purse frames on eBay, pretty cheap too! So I bought two small ones, coin purse size, and one slightly larger one. I also have some offcuts of fabric in my craft stash, so I think a nice plain crocheted outside, with a funky fabric lining 🙂 I haven’t managed to find a pattern for the size of frame, so looks like I’m on my own for this one!

2- Cushions – A couple of weeks ago I made some cushion panels. So far I have finished one, but still have five to finish off! Three have been done in the same colour scheme (but different shapes/styles), there’s two knitted hearts (link to pattern here , and one plain white crochet one. I think for the fabric side of the crochet one I will use the Cath Kidston fat quarter I have in the stash 🙂 I do love Cath Kidston.

3- Finish the granny square afghan – Oh I do love granny squares!! So easy to do and super quick, before you know it you have a whole pile! Which can then be turned into a blanket, a cushion, or well, anything you like really! I had a pretty good few hours of making these squares, so I now have a few, but not enough for a decent sized blanket. Looks like a few more ‘Granny Square’ crafting hours are needed. Then the joy of stitching them all together and making a lovely afghan throw. Also thinking once it’s done I may use it as the camping/festival blanket. YAY 🙂

4- Make something from ‘Tarn’ – For those new to the concept of ‘Tarn’….. Tarn is strips of fabric from T-shirts. Meaning its normally 100% upcycled 🙂 Obviously you can use anything else for your fabric strips, including bed sheets, pillow cases, linen trousers, table cloths, you get the picture! Cut as much as you want to use into strips as explained HERE You can either crochet or knit, using needles and hooks, or use your hands and arms!! Maybe even weave?! I’m thinking the ‘Tarn Project’ needs to be big, maybe a rug, or a giant floor cushion. (Hmmm… I think I may have a slight thing for cushions!!)

5- and Finally, finish ‘Project Blanket’ – I think it’s very nearly there actually!! I’m still just loving watching it transform from colour to colour… 🙂

Wow ok, now that I’ve started to think about all the things I want to achieve next month I’ve come over a little apprehensive!! But hey, I’m going to give it a good go!!

Posts on these to follow soon, as well as anything else I get distracted with!

First Blog!

2014-01-22 19.46.47

So the time has come to start blogging! I’m Jess, and I love to crochet, knit, sew, cook, take pictures, and any other crafty-type things! I just love making stuff, it’s almost like an addiction. I often find myself getting lost in mountains of wool and wondering where the last few hours went! But hey, i wouldn’t have it any other way 🙂

My latest mission is ‘Project blanket’. I wanted a super thick, double sized crocheted blanket, so i ordered some lovely James C Brett Marbled wool, a plain white wool, and some grey, and got cracking, and I really am shocked at the rate its going together!! It’s pretty big already, and nice, thick and heavy. With little bursts of pinks and purples amidst the white and grey. I must say, I am very happy with the way it’s turning out!

I really love the wool, it’s just so pretty!!

I’m just using half treble throughout, but i think it has a great look to it, simple, but great. And so SO warm and snuggly! Aiming to get it finished super quick while winter is still here, so it still gets plenty of sofa time before we get into summer 🙂

So, there we are, first blog done (it wasn’t that bad right?! 🙂 )

More posts soon!
